Alaska Airlines Boeing 737-9 Max flight
A significant incident occurred on Saturday with an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737-9 Max flight in the United States. After taking off from Portland to Ontario, California, the aircraft experienced a door malfunction at an altitude of 16,320 feet. The affected door was the aerolock door of the plane.
The key to the door tore the shirt of a child seated next to it, and some passengers’ phones were also dislodged. Fortunately, the child’s mother managed to take him outside the plane, averting any harm. Subsequently, the aircraft made an emergency landing, prompting airlines to suspend all Boeing 737-9 Max flights. In response, India’s aviation regulator DGCA has directed an inspection of the exit door of Boeing 737-8 Max planes.

Alaska Airlines shared information about the incident on its social media page, reporting 171 passengers and 6 crew members on board. The incident occurred around 5 pm local time on Friday, as illustrated in the graphic below showing the standard doors.
The pilot made an announcement, stating that the plane needed to divert due to pressurization issues. All passengers and crew are reported to be safe after the immediate landing in Portland. The National Business Aviation Association of UltraSound America is currently investigating the matter.
Passengers described a loud noise, comparable to an ear-piercing sound, and an unsettling atmosphere in the plane. Oxygen masks were deployed, and some passengers utilized them. Notably, this incident adds to the history of safety concerns with Boeing 737 Max planes.
Boeing introduced the 737 Max plane in 2015, gaining FAA approval in 2017. However, the plane faced scrutiny after fatal accidents in 2018 and 2019, resulting in a temporary flight ban by the FAA. In 2020, Boeing resumed flights after addressing design and manufacturing issues, culminating in a substantial fine of 2.5 billion dollars paid to the US Department of Justice in 2021.
