यह भूकंप इतना जोरदार था कि मिडिल ईस्ट के चार पांच देशों में भूकंप के झटके महसूस किए गए. तुर्की, सीरिया, लेबनान, इसराइल में भी भूकंप के झटके महसूस किए गए. भूकंप का केंद्र गजियातेप के क्षेत्र में था जहां लाखों शरणार्थी लोग रहते हैं. शरणार्थी क्षेत्र में 40लाख से भी ज्यादा लोग रहते हैं.
